DNCU History:

Del Norte Credit Union is a state chartered, community credit union. It was originally chartered in 1954 as Los Alamos Scientific Lab Credit Union, serving 54 members with $1,160.00 in assets. The credit union was formed because Los Alamos needed the services of a financial institution; LASLCU became the first financial institution in Los Alamos.

The credit union's field of membership has made several changes over the years. In 1959, the name was changed to Los Alamos Employees Credit Union, it serviced 2,717 members, and hired its first full-time manager. In 1977, the field of membership was expanded to include all persons living or working in Los Alamos County. The membership grew to 16,825 and share accounts became federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). In 1981, the credit union became a community charter, which allowed us to provide financial services to individuals in the surrounding communities.

In 1998, Santa Fe Federal Employees Federal Credit Union merged with Los Alamos Credit Union.

In April 1999, the credit union's name was officially changed to Del Norte Credit Union, which now services 14 counties in northern New Mexico and over 46,000 members. The credit union's services have grown to include Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs), Share Certificates, Money Market, and Checking accounts. The technological resources available to access members' accounts include Tellerphone, Mobile Banking, and Online Banking which includes Bill Pay, FinanceWorks, and TurboTax. Members have 24 hours a day, 7 days a week access to our member service center and their money through ATMs and their Visa Check Cards. Del Norte Credit Union continues to work smarter to provide better service to our member/owners.
